Letter to the Red States

I just came across this "letter" today even though it is now several months old. The woman intones pretty well what many blue-staters feel. I am a blue-stater and agree with her mostly. Mostly.

While there's no specifc thoughts in there I feel are wrong, I think it is a mistake to further divide and alienate various American citizens. For good or bad, we're all in this shit storm together and no one is going to emerge smelling like roses.

Smorg,

I'm an American. I don't believe in blue states or red states. I don't believe in African-Americans or German-Americans. I don't treat male and females different. I don't hate Jews or Neo-Nazis. I don't treat atheists any differently than I do Christians. I talk to liberals the same way I do conservatives.

We are Americans, we are humanity, and every one of us struggle to make our lives and the lives of our loved ones the best we can.

I am no better than you.

Not liking Bush the way I do, I wish that this letter could have somehow been circulated before the election. Maybe it would have given a few of the Southerners and Midwesterners some perspective.

Of course I don't mean to say none of them have perspective. That's why I said "no one is going to emerge smelling like roses". We have to work together, despite whatever feelings of remorse, misunderstanding or even hate we have toward each other.

You're right, Jack, in treating everyone the same. If everyone did that the world would be a much better place. For what it's worth, I'm trying to channel my ill will about Bush into a catalyst for positive change. It's a tough job, but I think it's the best way I can contribute right now.
